The preferred backing band for Neko Case. Descendants of the Canadian country act The Good Brothers. Sweaty alt-country vets who’ve been cranking out tunes since before any undergrad here at Bona’s could legally drive a car. Ladies and gents, meet The Sadies!Blending thick, acoustic minor chord strums with fuzzy overlays, The Sadies are a southwestern crew to the bone, swept over by a thin veil of country twang. Songs with sweet melodies hang down like weeping willows, but the overarching emotions are grief and solitude. Cautiously picked strings hone the songs down to a simple beauty while Yardbirds and even some wavy surf rock influences shine through. The Sadies are probably the downers of the party, but these guys, musicians’ musicians, certainly know how to make music.
